Description
From my Medical Collection: Here we have anAntique, Traveling Surgical Bi-Fold Leather Wallet with Instruments by SHARP & SMITH, Chicago.
J. P. Sharp and Wm. N. Smith were surgical instrument manufactures with facilities first on Randolph St. and later on Wabash St, Chicago, IL. They operated from approx. 1876 to the very early 1900’s. The tortoiseshell folding double instrument ( gum lance and tissue hook) and also the the small folding scalpel with broken tortoiseshell case are both marked with the makers name. The third tortoiseshell folding instrument appear to be a trocar spike and has no maker make and damage to the case. The is a small folding knife and a Probe Needle Director instrument with a blunt end needle-like probe. The Moroccan red leather bi-fold wallet has wear (not unexpected for a 150+ year old example !) Some of the loops have lost their stitching and are loose or detached. When rolled open the wallet is approx. 5" long x 8" wide. When rolled closed it is approx. 4" x 2" x 1-1/2" thick. It has a good,
ornate brass,
spring loaded closure.
